Diane Simpson’s “Window Dressing”

In this video feature by Sommer Filmworks, Chicago artist Diane Simpson shares her process behind her installation “Window Dressing,” which was on display at the Racine Art Museum from August 2007 to July 2008. “Reflecting one of the museum’s former incarnations as a department store, and paying homage to the window dressers of the 20s and 30s, “Window Dressing” juxtaposed individual sculptures with backgrounds that evoked designs of merchandise display windows of the 1920’s Deco period.” Simpson will be delivering a talk on Wednesday, September 25 at the Illinois State Museum’s Chicago Gallery, and other works by the artist can be seen at the gallery through November 1.
