Making its third year the Chicago Zine Fest is an independent two day event that features readings, workshops, lectures, panels, a Zine exhibition, and a film festival. For those unfamiliar with the term, Zines are self published booklets or magazines done by one person or a group of individuals purely for the love of doing it. Zines feature a wide variety of content such as art, fiction, essays, poetry, comics, articles about music and film, political topics and much more.

Kicking off the event at Columbia College Chicago on March 9th, the day began with several readings of original work by Liz Baudler, Kiki Kirk, Brownyn Mead, BriElle Munizzi and Maggie Ritchie. Following the readings was the panel discussion “Gender, Race and Sexuality: A Discussion with Women in Self-Publishing” featuring Anne Elizabeth Moore, Mimi Thi Nguyen, and Cristy Road, a Youth Reading in Wicker Park, an Exhibitor Reading, and the 2012 Spring Zine Olympics. Day two featured a Zine Exhibition, the DIY Film Festival and of course the Zine Fest after party.

The Chicago Zine Fest organizers are a group of dedicated and talented individuals who deserve recognition for their hard work and love for the craft. Oscar Arriola, Neil Brideau, Heather Colby, Leslie Perrine, Jen Twigg and Johnny Wawrzaszek.
