Reaffirming Sixty’s Editorial Vision: A 60-Day Pause

·

,

The Sixty editorial team is taking 60 days to work on developing a strategic plan that will: reaffirm our values, hone our editorial voice in service of those values, and identify priorities for future publishing.

Many of you see it, many of you feel it: funding and support for the arts is under threat under our current administration. Arts writing and criticism is not immune, as demonstrated by the shuttering of countless platforms for arts journalism and critical writing throughout the years, such as Ruckus Journal (Louisville, KY, 2017-2023), Dovetail Magazine (2020-2025), and many others. Sixty believes in the power and importance of platforms like these, that allow for inquiry, experimentation, documentation, and formal and informal analysis and critique.

It is easy to slip into a state of despair, but that is not who Sixty is. Instead, we will double down on the work that we do and the type of writing and writers we want to support, nourish, shape, and publish.

Over the next 60 days, we will be developing a strategic plan for our editorial goals. We will seek to reaffirm and reassess our core values, hone our editorial voice in service of those values, and identify priorities for future publishing. This pause will give Sixty’s team the much needed space and time to work collaboratively and collectively towards these goals.

In order to do this work, we will be taking a temporary pause from accepting pitches from March 1 – April 30th, with the possibility of extending the pause by two weeks to give ourselves a grace period. We will still be publishing the writing you know and love during this time, but our pitch form will be closed for English language pitches.

We look forward to returning from this 60-Day Pause with refreshed eyes, renewed editorial focus, and a clarity in the necessary work that Sixty strives to do.

*Please note that the pause is only for English pitches. Contributors may pitch bilingual pieces here.
