Join Sixty Inches From Center for Sixty on Stage: Sonic Becomings, a night of music performances with artists featured in Tuning Away from Mechanized Listening, an editorial series that dives into the work and minds of musicians and sound artists from across the Midwest.

This edition of Sixty On Stage features interdisciplinary artist and experimental turntableist Allen Moore, the queer, non-binary and women-centered traditional maqam ensemble TAYF طَيْف (brought by BIYA BIYA), and computer musician, improviser, programmer, and scientist Hugo Flores Garcia and Samuel Osorio (brought by Atmospheric Music Alliance).

Sixty on Stage: Sonic Becomings

All are welcome! Pay what you can–no one will be turned away!

And It’s Sixty’s SWEET SIXTEEN!

We will also be celebrating sixteen years of publishing–or Sixty’s Sweet Sixteen–with a tempting lineup of raffle items, a flirty Find & Seek missed connections booth, a mini music market (featuring WHPK, BIYA BIYA, and Atmospheric Music Alliance), and a closing set from DJ Track Master Scott of WHPK.

All funds raised will go towards Sixty’s editorial team and contributors, and our ongoing work to support Midwest artists, writers, and culture. Come celebrate this milestone with us!

About the featured artists:

BIYA BIYA brings together TAYF Ensemble. TAYF طَيْف , captured in English, can mean spectrum, diversity or vision. The ensemble widens the aperture on traditional maqam to center queer, non-binary and women performers, too often on the periphery of the tradition. Presented by BIYA BIYA Productions, TAYF طَيْف music and ethos resonates with the “call to gather” described by Tuning Away’s A Call to Gather with BIYA BIYA, a conversation with Founder & Creative Executive Producer, Yasmin Zacaria Mikhaiel.

Hugo Flores García and Samuel Osorio are Chicago-based sound artists from Honduras and Colombia. They make music with guitars, computers, and found sounds, blending their Latin American roots with ambient and electronic forms. Flores García is connected to Atmospheric Music Alliance, formerly Stretchmetal, whose ambient programming was featured in a Sixty review by Livy Snyder, Music That Wants You to Sleep: Ambient Lullabies at Stretchmetal’s Drone Sleepover. Flores García will also be featured in a new series, In a Silent Way, a new series from Atmospheric Music Alliance and Sixty.

Allen Moore is a Black Interdisciplinary Artist, Experimental Turntableist, Educator and Youth Mentor born and raised in the Historic Village of Robbins IL. Learn more about Allen Moore’s work through his conversation with Sixty’s own Livy Snyder for Tuning Away, where they discuss his soundwalk through the Chicago’s Pedway system as part of Hear Below, a collaboration between the NON:op Arts and Humanities and Midwest Society for Acoustic Ecology.

Track Master Scott is a WHPK 88.5 FM veteran who’s been bringing house music to the airwaves since 2013, building on a long career in music and promotion that began in 1985.

Through his radio show, DJ sets, and promotional events, he continues to get people on the dance floor with his signature sound punctuated by his trademark lion’s roar. Learn more about the WHPK radio station and its broadcasters through Sixty’s Tuning Away’s An Interview with WHPK DJS.
