Brown, black, red and pink stripes are sewn together to construct the artist’s take on an early Betsy Ross design of the American flag, while also paying tribute to enslaved women who were subjected to horrific medical experiments by Dr. J. Marion Sims, often considered the “father of modern gynecology”. The artwork is enclosed in a glass case and suspended from the ceiling.
