Sixty is pausing our daily work from June 19 to July 5 to rest and recharge.

Sesenta

Happy Juneteenth and Pride!

If you have followed our work for a while, you probably know that two of our core values are collective care and putting people before profit. In order to practice our values, each summer we pause our daily work for three weeks beginning Juneteenth, without pausing pay for our team.

In order to recharge ourselves and make space for creation, resistance, and (re)connection, we will not be reviewing new pitches during this time, and our calendars have been cleared of meetings and deadlines until we ease back into our work on July 6th.

Please note that we are not reviewing pitches through July 29. After our Slowdown, Sixty is shifting to a new editorial schedule with limited pitch periods. Our next open pitch period will be July 30 – October 14.

While pitches are closed, we are currently accepting applications for two new positions at Sixty: Administrative Projects Coordinator and Audience Development Coordinator. Click here to learn more about our current job openings.

Stay tuned when we return from Slowdown as we announce new projects and news from behind the scenes! Plus, our new column Creative Adaptations featuring interviews with Sixty staff will continue, and our curated Art Picks calendar will return in August.

We take rest and life outside of work seriously, because while we love what we do, labor is not what defines our lives. This summer we invite you to join us in taking rest and play seriously, and to embrace your neighbors and community with renewed generosity.

In solidarity,
Sixty

About the illustrator: Bri Robinson is a mixed media artist, analog collagist, sculpture artist, and historian who weaves intricate narratives of love, loss, and identity across the expansive Midwest. Through their unique process of cutting, pasting, and layering, Bri deepens the meaning of these found objects, transforming them into evocative works of art. Bri’s practice is deeply rooted in the exploration of identity, relationships, and the constant evolution of self. By merging archival materials with elements of popular culture, they create thought-provoking narratives that invite viewers to engage with the complexities of the queer experience. Through their work, Bri honors the past while also pushing the boundaries of contemporary art history, crafting pieces that are as introspective as they are expansive.
