Get to know Sixty

Since we can only fit so much into the few days we have together at Art Papers’ Art Writing + Publishing Symposium, we wanted to leave you with a few ways to get to know us better.

Questions Driving Sixty’s Collective Organizational Design and Advocacy Work

  • How can we ever expect to get to the root causes of historical and cultural issues if we don’t speak to and do our part to address the systemic issues (social, economic, political, cultural) that prevent and hinder many diasporic, Indigenous, trans, queer, and disabled artists and their communities from participating?
  • How does the nonprofit model, nonprofit industrial complex, and the institutional structures of the arts impact our ability to work toward and live in our mission? How do we promote and implement an abundance mindset and resist a scarcity mindset? How can we radically redistribute resources?
  • How can we institutionalize the methodologies, values, and practices of our communities, which tend to be collective, cooperative, non-hierarchical, fluid, and necessarily adaptable?
  • How do we ensure we aren’t perpetuating and replicating the same policies and practices that have historically harmed our communities?
  • How do we institutionalize and create healthy working conditions and an environment that prioritizes our full selves as creatives, as freelancers, people, and also as people and members of our respective communities?
