At the end of May, Sixty Inches From Center attended the One State Together In The Arts Conference in Bloomington, Illinois. (See the photos taken at the event here) Every two years state-wide artists, educators, arts advocates, arts organizers and arts organizations come together in a different city to exchange ideas, share experiences and get to know the people doing great things in the arts throughout Illinois.   Around the theme Creative Breakthrough, presenters in the fields of design, music, poetry, theater and more offered their insights on what it has taken for them to take their ideas to new heights, push further and apply what they’ve learned to how they will move forward. To do our part in spreading the wealth of information found at the conference, Sixty Inches From Center requested permission to post the videos from One State Together In The Arts on our site.  The following text and videos are taken directly from the One State Together In The Arts website, www.onestateillinois.com and the talk of the Museum of Contemporary Art’s Director of Design, James Goggin.

About James Goggin

The Museum of Contemporary Art named James Goggin its director of design, print, and digital media in the summer of 2010.

Prior to joining the Museum of Contemporary Art, in 1999 James Goggin established Practise, a design studio that created an impressive body of work for a wide range of high-profile clients — from books, posters, typefaces, identities, and stationery to exhibition design, signage, websites, and motion graphics. He has served as design consultant for Tate Britain and Tate Modern since 2003 and has worked with the Camden Arts Centre, the Design Museum, Frieze, the Victoria & Albert Museum, and White Cube among many others.

James Goggin is also an educator, lecturer, and author. He received a BA in visual communication from Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication in London in 1997 and an MA in graphic design from the Royal College of Art in London in 1999.

One State is bi-annually convened by Illinois Arts Council and the Arts Alliance Illinois.
